7 Days and counting !

Hola everyone,

Things are starting to get real. This time next week ill be at 36,000ft on our Virgin Atlantic airbus, somewhere between here and Honkers. I still cant believe I'm going to Europe ! It's somewhere I have always wanted to go but never thought I would get to.

Our first week of the journey is in Spain and to be honest, I'm nervous. Heard the saying "Taking the Bull by the Horns" ? Well that's exactly what I'm going to avoid when we hire a car in Barcelona and drive up to Pamplona on the 6th & 7th of July for the festival of Sanfermines. We are meeting up with fellow lifeguard and carrier of black cloud, Michael "Mouse" Jenkinson. Mouse is on his own little adventure around Europe in a decked out 15 seater bus. If you see him and his black cloud hovering, just wave and move on quickly. It could get ugly !

We are only staying in Pamplona for one night then heading back to Barcelona to kick back and enjoy everything the second largest city in Spain has to offer. If anyone has any ideas of cool stuff to do in Barcelona please feel free to let us know in the comments section :)

Things are coming along nicely in regards to the UK leg. The lovely ladies at Owl Marketing are sweating away in Manchester's scorching heat (!!!) trying to confirm dates and locations so we can post them up. I can say from 29th July to the 2nd August we are trying to get up to Ireland, it's a country I've wanted to see since I was knee high to a grasshopper. How could you not: IRELAND.
From there we'd shoot across to Anglesey to find Prince Willy. I'd love to shout him a congratulations beer. Watching him tie the knot on the telly gave me goose bumps and I want to pat him on the back and say "Nice one big fella" !

Today I asked Maxi how he was going to handle the language barrier:

So we've been doing our best to work on our English slang? but as you can see we are pretty bad.

Feel free to throw some in the comments section below and we will do our best to practice as much as possible during our 24hrs of flying time !

Anyways I only have 7 days to pack my bags so I better wrap up this blog and get cracking.
He He, (Am I the only one that packs way too early when they're excited about a trip?)

Till next time,

Hasta Luego

  6. In Barcelona go to parc guell because it has this cool design and great views of the whole city including the sagrada familia :P and in England don't forget that if 'loo' is mentioned it's the toilets, in cockney rhyming slang trouble and strife is your wife, boat race is your face and to have a butchers is to have a look ! But up north by Liverpool we don't say that! the nick is the jail and rossers or the old bill is the police. The quacks is the doctors. but yeah if you use it all you'll probs get funny looks haha

  7. don't bother with the English slang Maxi - we like the Aussie twang!!! Reidy sounds like a cockney on helium though!

  29. Please come to Gwithian beach in Cornwall after 7th August or before the 30th July, I love you guys! <3 <3 <3

    ReplyDelete
  30. In Barcelona you should really walk the whole Ramblas towards the harbour. There are some really nice tapas restaurants at the pier. We did that when we were in Barcelona. The Gaudí park is cool as well.

  32. Maxi, you need to order a pint of wife beater - that's Stella Artois to you, maybe a bit strong for you Aussies compared to VB!

    ReplyDelete
  33. in barcelona there's the newcamp football stadium which is pretty cool :) please do a public appearance in ireland on the 29th cos im going away from the 30th till the 7th of august! D; :L in dublin definitley have dinner in madigans pub in abbey street, they have the funniest waitress there that will do anything to make you feel at home :) and they have great food too!

  34. In Barcelona you can start your walk at placa de Catalunya (there's a Hard Rock Cafe over there) and then stroll on the Rambla. Make sure you take a stop at La Boqueria, an amazing market! You'll finish at the monument of Colombus right next to Port Vell which is a very nice place to relax (and close to the beaches).

Two places you absolutely must visit are Parc Guell and the Sagrada Familia (make sure you ask for a ticket for the elevator too!). If you're into Gaude, La Pedrera is a must see. Another beautiful parc is parc de la ciutadella (with a zoo and fountain) nearby the Arc de Triompf. At night this is very popular: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sgzGa3EbPW0

If you don't want to figure out how to get everywhere with the Metro hou should use the 'Barcelona Bus Turistic', it's the easiest way to get to the main attractions and has 3 different tours.

Beware of pickpockets and good luck, cause they hardly understant English :) Have fun!

  35. when in the uk you need to take some time out to go to alton towers!! its the best theme park in the uk and a must!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Where are you planning to visit in Ireland??? Also, been to Barcelona, absolutely beautiful but watch out for pick pockets and bag snatchers. Barcelona seems to be a particular hotspot, I know quite a few people who have been victim to them!

  42. Again a fun blog to read, the youtube's of maxi are hysterical! great blog and have fun packing!!!

    ReplyDelete
  43. In Barcelona you should do Parque Guell with all the Gaudi stuff and also the Nou Camp stadium. Even if you don't like soccer its pretty spectacular inside. There's an open top bus which goes round all the attractions and you can get on and off anywhere.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Cafe Zurich at the top of las ramblas just to sit and chill and people watch. Some very interesting sights!!! And you may see a parade or two. Nou camp is a must x

    ReplyDelete
  45. What a shame you will be in Barcelona exactly two weeks before I go there on a holiday! But, Barcelona is a great city so have fun! Everybody has already mentioned the best things to do. One more suggestion: order a bocadillo de jamón, they are delicious! Oh, and the Spanish word for beer is cerveza ;)

In the meantime I guess I will just wait 'till February next year, since I will probably be coming to Sydney then for a 5-month internship :D. So I might see you guys after all (not that you really care though ;p).

Have a great time and keep up the good work!
